What each uptime monitoring tool charges

Every figure in this table was read on the vendor's own pricing page in August 2026. Where a vendor localizes its pricing page by visitor country we have taken the US list, because that is the figure a US buyer is actually charged. HetrixTools and Instatus are missing on purpose: their pages would not return readable figures to us this month, and a stale price is worse than no price. Pingdom is now included, having finally read to us in full; we broke its whole ladder out on the Pingdom pricing page. Datadog is priced per check run rather than per monitor, so it sits on synthetic monitoring pricing with the other metered vendors instead of in this table.

Two things stand out reading down that table. The entry prices are remarkably close together, which means the headline number is almost never the reason to pick one tool over another. And the billing models in the last column are not close together at all. That column is the one to read twice, because it is what makes two teams with identical infrastructure pay very different amounts. If what you are budgeting for is the public page customers read during an outage, that is a separate market with its own ladder, and we price it separately in the status page pricing comparison. And if the tools you are weighing are the metered APM platforms rather than the flat-rate vendors above, the rates work completely differently: Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, Grafana and AWS all bill per check run, so the interval sets the bill. One vendor in the table above is complicated enough to need its own page: Better Stack sells no tiers at all, only a free base plan and about twenty add-ons, four of which cost $250 per status page per month, so we price the whole catalogue line by line in the Better Stack pricing breakdown. UptimeRobot has its own page for a different reason: its first paid plan holds 80% fewer monitors than its free one, which inverts how the rest of this table reads, and we work through every tier and the real cost per monitor in the UptimeRobot pricing breakdown. Site24x7 is the third: it is not one ladder but eight plans across three product lines, and its website tier list actually runs backwards, giving you 32 monitoring locations on the $10 plan and 8 on the $39 one, so we mapped every plan and every add-on unit rate in the Site24x7 pricing breakdown. StatusCake is the fourth: it bundles five separate meters (monitors, check interval, status pages, locations and SSL checks) into just two tiers, so paying more gets you proportionally less on some of them, and we walk through all four places that happens in the StatusCake pricing breakdown. Uptrends is the fifth, and the odd one out: it does not price monitors at all, it prices credits, and an uptime monitor costs six of them, so we decoded the whole rate card in the Uptrends pricing breakdown. Pulsetic is the sixth, and it is the only vendor here that publishes a per-unit rate for every meter alongside its plan prices, which lets you check the plans against their own components: doing that shows the middle tier costs exactly $2 a month more than the cheapest one at every monitor count, and we show the arithmetic in the Pulsetic pricing breakdown. Hyperping is the seventh, and it inverts the usual volume discount: its per-seat price rises as you move up the tiers, $7 then $9 then $12, so the middle plan is never the cheaper option for people at any team size, and we prove that has no crossover in the Hyperping pricing breakdown. Two more belong to the adjacent category rather than to this table, and they matter because most teams end up paying for one of each: PagerDuty and Opsgenie are on-call and incident response tools that route an alert once something else has detected the problem, so their per-user bill sits on top of whatever is running the checks. PagerDuty bills every user with no published volume discount and holds only five people on its free plan, which makes the sixth hire cost $1,512 in year one rather than $252, and we work that step through in the PagerDuty pricing breakdown. Opsgenie prices the same job on a nine band marginal ladder instead, which is why the two are within 5% of each other at ten users and 2.17 times apart at a thousand, and it is being switched off on 5 April 2027, so every existing customer has a replacement to buy: the full ladder is in the Opsgenie pricing breakdown and the two are set side by side in Opsgenie vs PagerDuty pricing. Sentry is the newest addition and behaves unlike anything else here: it includes exactly one uptime monitor and one cron monitor on every plan, free and paid alike, then meters the rest at $1.00 and $0.78 a month, so upgrading from the $29 plan to the $89 one buys no extra monitors at all and changes only one included quota out of fourteen. The real variable

The five ways uptime monitoring is priced

Uptime monitoring is sold five different ways, and they diverge fast. Two teams watching the same twenty endpoints can pay $9 and $250 for the same information, purely because of which shape they bought into.

Per monitor

Uptimehub, Cronitor

The bill is a function of how many things you watch and nothing else. Adding a teammate is free, checking every 30 seconds instead of every 5 minutes is free, and a busy month costs the same as a quiet one. It is the easiest model to forecast, and the one that punishes you least for monitoring thoroughly.

Per seat or per responder

Better Stack, incident.io

You pay for the humans who can see and act on the alerts. This works out cheaply for a two-person team and gets expensive precisely when you want more of the company watching. Better Stack publishes $34 a month per responder on top of its monitor charge, so a six-person on-call rota is over $200 a month before a single monitor is counted.

Per check run or per request

Checkly, Postman, Datadog

You buy a pool of executions and every check consumes from it. Frequency is the multiplier here: moving one endpoint from a 5 minute check to a 1 minute check uses five times the budget. It suits teams running a handful of deep scripted checks, and it is the worst fit for watching many endpoints often.

Per subscriber

Statuspage, Instatus

Status page products almost always ladder on how many people can subscribe to updates, not on how much you monitor. Atlassian Statuspage runs from $29 for 250 subscribers to $1,499 for 25,000. The trap is that a single bad outage grows your subscriber list and pushes you up a tier.

Tiered bundles

UptimeRobot, StatusCake, Hyperping, Site24x7, Pulsetic

A step function. You get a fixed allowance of monitors and a fixed check interval, and when you outgrow either one you buy the whole next tier. Cheap while you fit and abruptly expensive when you do not, so the number to check is the headroom above your current monitor count, not the price you pay today.

SMS and phone call alerts

Email, Slack and webhook alerts are almost always included. SMS and voice calls very often are not, and are either capped at a small monthly allowance or billed per message. If your escalation path depends on waking someone at 3am, price that channel specifically before you commit.

The custom domain on your status page

A page at status.yourdomain.com is the one customers trust, and it is routinely locked behind a higher tier than the one you were planning to buy. Check which tier unlocks it. Uptimehub includes it in every plan, which is deliberate, but that is not the norm in this category.

Seats for people who only need to look

Under per-seat pricing, read-only access is frequently still a paid seat. That quietly discourages giving support and account teams visibility, which is the opposite of useful during an incident.

Check frequency

Many entry tiers advertise a monitor count and quietly cap the interval at 5 minutes. A 5 minute check means an outage can run for nearly 5 minutes before anyone knows. If you need 30 or 60 second checks, confirm the tier rather than the brochure.

Data retention and SLA reports

Uptime history is what you need when a customer disputes an SLA credit. Retention windows of 7 or 30 days are common on lower tiers, and exportable SLA reporting is usually a paid feature.

Annual lock-in on the advertised price

A large share of the headline numbers in this category are annual-billing prices, and the gap is real money. StatusCake is $24.49 a month billed monthly against $20.41 billed annually, Hyperping is $29 against $24, and Site24x7 is $10 against $9. Compare like with like before deciding one tool undercuts another.

Count your monitors honestly, then double it

Teams consistently underestimate. A single web app is usually the marketing site, the app domain, the API, the login endpoint, the SSL certificate, the DNS record and two cron jobs. That is eight monitors for one product. Price the tier you will be on in a year, not the one you fit today.

Decide whether the bill should track people or services

This is the single biggest fork. If your team will grow faster than your infrastructure, avoid per-seat pricing. If you run a handful of deep scripted journeys with a stable two-person team, a metered per-run tool can be cheaper than it looks.

Check the interval, not just the monitor count

Two plans at the same price with the same monitor allowance are not comparable if one checks every 5 minutes and the other every 30 seconds. Detection speed is the product. A cheaper plan that finds out nine times slower is not cheaper.

Work out whether the status page is included or sold separately

Buying monitoring at $9 and a status page at $29 is a $38 stack with an integration in the middle that can silently stop working. Bundled tools flip the page from their own confirmed checks. If you need a public page at all, price the pair together.

Look for the free tier that is a real free tier

UptimeRobot at 50 monitors is genuinely generous. Several others cap at 10 monitors and 5 minute checks, which is a trial in everything but name. Neither is dishonest, but they support very different decisions.

The price you are shown depends on where you are

Several vendors localize the pricing page by visitor location, and the lists are set independently rather than converted. UptimeRobot shows $12, $39 and $79 to a US visitor and EUR 9, EUR 35 and EUR 65 to a European one, which works out to three different implied exchange rates, so neither list is a translation of the other. Site24x7 ships five currency lists to the browser. If you are approving spend in dollars, confirm the figure from a US connection rather than trusting a number quoted in an article, because the author may simply have been somewhere else.

Test the alerting before you care about the price

Every tool on this list can tell you a site is down. The differences that matter under pressure are auto-retry from a second region before alerting, how fast the notification actually lands, and whether the escalation path works at night. A cheap tool that cries wolf gets muted, and a muted monitor is worth nothing.

Re-verified on their US pricing page in August 2026: the free tier covers 50 monitors at 5 minute checks and one status page, Solo is $12 a month annually for 10 monitors at 60 seconds, Team is $39 for 100 monitors at 30 seconds, and Scale starts at $79 for 200 to 500 monitors at 15 seconds. Note that Solo holds fewer monitors than the free plan, so the paid ladder sells check speed rather than capacity.

It is worth paying for once downtime costs you money or trust. The arithmetic is simple: a $9 plan pays for itself if it saves one hour of unnoticed outage a year on a site that earns anything at all. Below that threshold, a free tier is a perfectly rational choice.

Per-monitor pricing bills you for how many things you watch, so adding teammates is free. Per-seat pricing bills you for how many people can see and act on alerts, so the cost grows with your team rather than your infrastructure. Per-seat gets expensive exactly when you want more of the company watching.

Because the billing model, not the feature list, drives the bill. A six-person team on per-responder pricing can pay three times what an identical team pays per monitor, for the same checks. Check frequency and status page subscribers create the same divergence on metered and subscriber-tiered plans.

It is good enough to know a site broke, and rarely good enough to know quickly. Free tiers almost universally cap checks at 5 minutes, limit alert channels to email, and put branded status pages behind payment. If customers notice your outages before you do, the free tier is costing you more than a paid one.
